Spruce Street Suspension Bridge

Spruce Street Suspension Bridge

One thing I really miss about Tennessee? Green.

If you hadn’t heard by now, California has been in an exceptional drought (which, contrary to the name, is not at all exceptional) for the last few years. Among the thousands of things affected by the drought – the landscape. So much brown everywhere.

So, you could say I was pretty thrilled when I stumbled upon the Spruce Street Suspension Bridge in San Diego. Located just north of downtown, the bridge is an urban oasis that mimics a jungle! It was so nice to finally see some green – and challenge my fear of heights by walking on the swaying bridge, which sits 70 feet above the canyon floor. The bridge isn’t crazy long, but it’s a charming place to finally get a fix of green, healthy nature and fresh air so close to San Diego’s urban center. Plus, the surrounding neighborhood had the cutest houses to peek at.

Where: Northern Banker’s Hill – just a few blocks from Balboa Park & Hillcrest (the bridge actually comes up on Google Maps – easy to find!)

What: A charming, cool suspension bridge that makes you think you just entered a jungle + a beautiful surrounding canyon.

When: Open 6 am – 10 pm everyday
